Batangas Model of Excellence School

Fountain Valley, CA (January 23, 2005) - Katipunan-USA is teaming up with Books for the Barrios to create a Model of Excellence school in Tinga Itaas, Batangas City, Batangas, Philippines.
Books for the Barrios developed this program to assure that the books and educational materials we deliver are used effectively in the Philippines. The National Model-of-Excellence Schools Program transforms remote barrio schools into world-class learning institutions that set the national standard and serve as models for all schools in the surrounding region. Each Model-of-Excellence School is equipped with materials that include textbooks, science kits, pre-school toys and games and consumables such as paper and pencils.
Every Model-of-Excellence School includes a library, a computer center with at least 22 computers, and a garden that is tended by the children and used as part of the environmental education curriculum.
To date, they have transformed 44 Philippine barrio schools into learning institutions that set a new national standard.
This ongoing project with this barrio school will last for six years. Our first shipment to the school will be November 3, 2004.
If you would like to help, please send pens, pencils, crayons, art supplies (glue, scissors, construction paper, craft paper, easel pad, drawing pads, markers, paint, brushes) to Katipunan-USA. We also encourage donations. $50 checks are very much appreciated, but of course any amount will help these students.
