Vancouver metal roofing Installer Fountain Valley, CA 10/12/03 - Through the generous assistance of Katipunan-USA supporters, Book Drive 2003 was a success collecting more than eight boxes of books for the Christian Academy of Bacolod in San Antonio, Himamaylan. Picture books, coloring books, story books, and encyclopedias were collected in the one month project. The Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance in Garden Grove was instrumental in attaining books for this humanitarian project. The Orange County Register also publicized our project in the Asian American Notebook last May 18, 2003.
In June, we collaborated with Books for the Barrios in the Bay Area to send books to this Christian Academy of Bacolod. The books we collected recently will be sent to Books for the Barrios by the end of September so they can directly ship it to the Academy.
This October, we will be mailing the books to the Academy. Stay tuned for more details.

Background: Founder, Ernie Delfin, received an email from Diana Verba Lamela. She is a reading teacher at Christian Academy of Bacolod in San Antonio,Himamaylan. Below is a clip of her email to us: "This is his seventh month as Punong Barangay and we've actually gone around that Barangay on foot from the vales up to the mountains.The one thing I've noticed is the number of children still unable to read at age 7 or 8.There's one elem.and one high school but believe it or not,NO LIBRARY! This summer God willing I'll be able to have a reading class at their dilapidated day care center.Children there are not encouraged to go to school and these children would rather work in the cane fields.I have books at home and I bring some when I go up so children can see and appreciate books but to borrow your line...like Martin Luther King I too had a dream and I don't want it to remain a dream.Sir, will you be kind enough to make it a reality? all I need is donation of children's books."
