Katipunan-USA team places 15th
in AAJA Trivia Bowl

By Donna K. Delfin

GLENDALE, Calif., September 28, 2001--Katipunan-USA joined the Asian American Journalist Association Los Angeles chapter in celebrating their 20th anniversary. We participated in their signature event, Trivia Bowl, at KABC7 Studios in Glendale. More than 500 journalists and community leaders participated on 43 teams, nearly four times the record field of 11 teams in some previous years.

L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, Assemblywoman Judy Chu and representatives from Mayor Jim Hahn and Assemblywoman Carol Liu's offices were on hand to celebrate the chapter's anniversary and made official presentations.

The event was emceed by KABC-TV anchor David Ono. A live auction took place in between games with items donated from KTTV Fox 11/UPN 13, Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno". Some lucky individuals also won raffle prizes from Cathay Pacific, Walt Disney Company, AT&T Wireless, and Best Buy.

Our team members included Frances Tambaoan, Tri Nguyen, Donna Delfin, Ernie Delfin, E.J. Delfin, Lenard Tercenio, Bobby Reyes, Holmes Stoner and Tom Takata. We competed with teams like Click2Asia, KTTV-Fox, KNBC, KABC7, Los Angeles Times, The Orange County Register, Korea Times, and many others. We answered hard questions like "Who are the two Asian Americans in Bush' cabinet to What was the exact date of Elvis' death?". We had a lot of fun while helping raise money for AAJA scholarships and stipends.
