Katipunan-USA Holiday Project

GARDEN GROVE, Calif., December 20, 2001--A rainy Thursday wasn't stopping Katipunan-USA from delivering Christmas presents.

Tri Nguyen, Donna Delfin, Ernie Delfin, and Rico Garcia participated in this year's Katipunan-USA Holiday project by adopting a family at the Thomas House Shelter for Families.

Family #31 (Petra, Jeannette, Carmen, and Fernando) received a purse and Old Navy clothes such as sweaters, jeans, khakis, and shirts this Christmas.

We encourage everyone to continue the Christmas season of giving to one another. It is in giving that we receive.

Information about Thomas House Shelter for Families:

Thomas House is a temporary shelter for homeless families located in an apartment complex in Garden Grove. The population served is men, women, and children from diverse cultural backgrounds. The mission of Thomas House is to provide a safe, supportive environment and the resources necessary for homeless families to remain together while becoming independent and self-sufficient. The program emphasizes empowering the economically poor rather than solely providing food and shelter.

Thomas House is a transitional shelter for 16 homeless families in Garden Grove. The purpose of Thomas House is to provide a supportive environment and the resources necessary for homeless parents and their children to become independent and self-sufficient.

During their three to six month stay, families seek or maintain employment, save 80% of their income and move toward permanent housing. Services provided by Thomas House include food, shelter, individual and family counseling, life skills classes and ESL, budget assistance, employment preparation, job search and programs for children.
