How You Can Help

Food for thought...

I cannot do everything, but still I can do something
- Helen Keller

Pinay teacher touched by a Good Samaritan in Los Angeles

Rosario "Nene" D. Lansangan is a very special teacher. Besides singing in her church choir and playing guitar in her spare time, she teaches music to the poor children in her town of Hagonoy, Bulacan, Philippines. An awardee as the "Bulacan Most Outstanding Teacher" in 1995, she is known and loved by almost everyone who cares for schools, kids, and music.

Amidst her hectic schedule, she finds time even to volunteer in her church and community. She has helped organized various cultural and musical groups in her town such as the "Musikong Bumbong," Teodora Cruz Rondalla, Hagonoy Elementary School Pupils' Choir, "Dulaang Musmos," the District Teachers' Choir, and the Toy Band.

Then in March 16, 2000, almost everything in her life stopped because of a heart stroke that almost proved fatal. She is no longer the same Nene that everybody knew. Her many dreams were frozen and the world around her stood still.

Before her tragedy, quitting her teaching profession was never in her dictionary, but now that she is disabled, her number one fear as a good provider to her children is tearing her up. There is no way for her children to go to college and still provide the family's needs. Her husband Jun has just a part-time job to support their six children.
