First Katipunan-USA Walk-A-Thon Was a Huge Success

Fountain Valley, CA 11/18/00--After many weeks of planning and organizing for Katipunan-USA's walk-a-thon, it paid off with last Saturday's tremendous turnout and outcome. Katipunan-USA held its first Walk-A-Thon early Saturday morning at Mile Square Park to raise airfare money for Nene Lansangan to come to the United States for heart surgery.

Many young and old participants and volunteers came as far away as Chino Hills, North Hollywood, Riverside, Los Angeles, Carson, West Covina and San Jose to support this commendable and gratifying cause.

Business such as the Cerritos Rotary Club endorsed the project by providing liability insurance for this event. Attorney JoJo Reyes from the Law Offices of Norborto Reyes, David Paraiso from Integrated Technologies, Mike Arus from Franklin Financial, Becky Lingad, Sim Silverio from Asian Journal, Randy Mendoza from Samahang Haganoy, and Commodore Ramon Alcaraz were happy to support our cause by becoming corporate financial sponsors. Without their financial backing, there would be no t-shirts for our event.

As of this writing, Nene and her companion are now in the process of applying for their U.S. Visa and passport. Katipunan-USA is hoping that she will be in Los Angeles by December 10.
